On 8 July 1963, Dick Pownall, and fellow American Mount Everest Expedition (AMEE) team members, received the National Geographic Society (NGS) Hubbard Medal. The medal was presented by President John F. Kennedy (JFK) during a White House ceremony. United Press International White House correspondent, Helen Thomas, covered the ceremony.
