With Battle Mountain in the background, the shaft house of the main entrance to the Gilman mine on Highway 24 is at midground. The waste dump from the mine is below the shaft house with the Rock Creek settlement to the left of the dump.

Castle Peak fire look-out cabin built in 1916; not used since 1938. Repairs done in 1962 or 1963. This area was prone to frequent electrical charges during storms and was therefore not continued as a fire lookout by the Forest Service.

Castle Peak and the lookout station. The lookout station was used in finding fires throughout the surrounding areas, since it was located at approximately 11,275 feet.

The Trujillo house on Water Street in Red Cliff on January 31, 2014, after the sun came out. From January 1 through January 31, 2014, Red Cliff received 63 inches of snow. On January 31, the town received an additional 21 inches.
54) Tom and Dick

Horses Tom and Dick tethered to a wagon. Tom and Dick were the team that moved Dessie, Earl and Theodore Beck from Salida to Red Cliff.
"The Earl Beck family moved into town sometime after Jan. 14, 1923, when I was born, and before March 2, 1925, when Buster was born, but I have never known just exactly when. We lived for a short while in a house on Monument Street and then moved down to the lower end of town on Water Street. We rented for a while...
