Automobiles parked at Gilman along the main road into the town. Housing in left background. The building at the far right is the one-story part of the shaft house. Stacked mine timbers can barely be seen above the roofline. This appears to be taken prior to the bus line that ran from Minturn.

Iron Mask Mine near Gilman before it was destroyed by a fire in 1886. Wood is scattered at the upper right from a house that was blasted to prevent a fire from spreading.

Assay Office constructed by the Silverwave Mining Company in about 1882. (A. F. Graham, carpenter, was the father of Ollie Graham Meyer of Red Cliff.) Torn down in 1938 after many years of disuse. "It was said that the reason it was built on the edge of the dliff was so that men working at the assay office could signal to the loading station on the railroad in the canyon below."

With Battle Mountain in the background, the shaft house of the main entrance to the Gilman mine on Highway 24 is at midground. The waste dump from the mine is below the shaft house with the Rock Creek settlement to the left of the dump.

Frank Maloit's 1930 Hupmobile during spring mud season. The road from Red Cliff to Leadville wasn't paved until the mid-1930s. [The Hupmobile was produced from 1909-1940 by the Hupp Motor Company in Detroit.--Wikipedia]
Over the left rear of the Hupmobile is the roof of the old Powder House. Beyond that is the Mine Warehouse where Jim Walsh was storekeeper. Beyond that is the head frame for the mine hoist.
