In 1918 funds were raised by Gunnison County, and in 1919 Gunnison High School was built south of the existing Normal School building. A "basement" connecting the two buildings was soon built, but a completed "Central Hall" would not become a reality until 1930.
The wire fence was an attempt to keep open range cattle off campus grounds. (Note the grazing bovines on the left in the photo.)
