"In 1917 Howard and Mattie Van Horn and daughters came over from Edwards on the Eagle River and bought part of the Groh ranch from Hollis Brooks, the owner at that time. The land they bought had about thirty acres in cultivation and under a ditch. There were no other improvements except some fence, so the Van Horns built this better than average ranch house and other buildings so necessary on every ranch.
