"February, 1936. The Black Mountain Ranch when John Ambos and his mother were living there. It shows the 1925 burn on the northwest side of Black Mountain, caused by carelessness of sawmill operator Dick Webb whose mill was located at the foot of the mountain." -- McCoy Memoirs, p. 244

In McCoy Memoirs, p. 10, there is the same shot only with F. W. Ambos included and Harry Groh taking the picture. According to John Ambos, "In the early years of the 1900's deer were not plentiful in the McCoy area."

Date discrepancy: photo says 1932, McCoy Memoirs p.275 says 1925.
"A Conger Mesa spud picking crew on the Joe Tuyls ranch about 1925. Of the six man crew, only four can be identified, they are: Sam Moniger, Frank Ault, John Ambos and Joe Tuyls, all to the left of the sorter. A good crew could pick up to 400 bags per day, providing the yield was good. This crop was well below average with a yield of less than 100 bags an acre." -- McCoy Memoirs,...

"In February of 1933 there was no snow at the John Ambos sawmill on the east rim of Rock Creek Canyon and very little anywhere in the McCoy area, for that matter. But a year later, there was plenty of it. The A frame just to the right of the mill shed, supports a heavy aerial cable that Frank Haddon had stretched across the canyon for a log hoisting operation in 1930 which was a dismal failure." -- McCoy Memoirs, p.245
